The Agunechemba Community Security Network in Anambra State has described the recent re-election of Governor Chukwuma Charles Soludo as a clear validation of its non-partisan operations and commitment to the protection of lives and property across the state.
According to a press statement issued on Sunday by the group’s Media Director and Publicity Secretary, Comrade Nweke Nweke, Agunechemba maintained that its absence from direct election duties and Governor Soludo’s landslide victory in the November 8 governorship election have proven wrong the claims made by opposition candidates who alleged that the group was politically motivated and had influenced a recent election.
The press statement, which was issued on behalf of the Special Adviser to the Governor on Community Security, Prince Ken Emeakayi, noted that several candidates from other political parties had, during their campaigns, accused Agunechemba of being an instrument used by the state government to suppress opponents. However, the group said the outcome of the election has shown that such allegations were baseless and politically driven.
Comrade Nweke stated that Agunechemba operates strictly within the ambit of the law and under the directives of the state’s community security framework. He explained that the organization’s focus remains on intelligence gathering and collaboration with federal security agencies to combat criminal elements that once held parts of the state hostage before Governor Soludo assumed office.
The statement further revealed that Agunechemba’s pre-election operations, especially its proactive intelligence work that identified and tracked the hideouts of unknown gunmen, contributed significantly to the peaceful and credible conduct of the governorship election across the state. It added that the body remains committed to its lawful duties despite distractions from individuals and political interests that do not share the same concern for the safety of Ndi Anambra.
Comrade Nweke, who spoke to journalists on behalf of the Governor’s Special Adviser, reiterated that Agunechemba operatives, under Prince Emeakayi’s leadership, serve the collective interest of the people, irrespective of political affiliation. He emphasized that the re-election of Governor Soludo was not only a victory for democracy but also a reflection of the people’s trust in the administration’s security and development initiatives.
While reacting to the accusations from some opposition elements, the Agunechemba spokesperson described them as “cheap political propaganda,” stressing that many of those who now criticize the organization have indirectly benefited from the safety provided by its operatives, who continue to risk their lives to ensure peace in the state.
The statement also reaffirmed Agunechemba’s role as a community-based security outfit working in synergy with the police and other federal agencies to maintain public safety. It called on community leaders, traditional rulers, and residents to sustain their collaboration with the organization, noting that security remains a shared responsibility that requires collective vigilance and cooperation.
Agunechemba concluded by assuring that it will not be distracted by baseless allegations or political mischief but will continue to operate as a neutral, professional, and people-oriented security network devoted to advancing Governor Soludo’s vision of a safe and livable Anambra State.
