The fate of a victim of gunmen, Ifeanyi Emmanuel Nwafor is still hanging in the balance as he lost his entire family members in a gun shot attack while on transit.
The yet-to-be identified gunmen suspected to be either hired assassins, ransom kidnappers or Boko Haram insurgents had waylaid a vehicle with which Ifeanyi Emmanuel Nwafor, his mother, Ngozi Nwafor and his two sisters, Miss Martha Ogochukwu and Uchenna Mary Nwafor were traveling and opened fire on them.
Consequently, the incident which occurred at Oba in Idemili South Local Government Area of Anambra state on Thursday, August 1, 2024, left much for be desired at the end of the encounter.
Eye-witnesses said the sound of gun had attracted sympathizers who thronged the scene and rushed the trio of Ngozi, mother of Ifeanyi Emmanuel and her two sisters, Martha and Mary to a nearby hospital where they were confirmed dead by medical experts, thus leaving the survivor, Ifeanyi Emmanuel Nwafor as the only person left alive among the family members.
To confirm their death, the medical experts at Chibuenyim Hospital and Maternity, Oba where they were rushed to and confirmed dead, issued three separate death certificates against their names.
According to death certificates issued by the hospital, lifeless bodies of the trio of Mrs. Ngozi, Miss Martha and Mary Nwafor natives of Ebiaji community in Ezza North Local Government Area of Ebonyi state but residing in Anambra state who were brought to the hospital at about 11 p.m. on the fateful day, were dead on arrival as a result of gun shot wounds.
Anambra state Commissioner of Police, Ikioye Orutugu had during his recent media parley with journalists in Awka, disclosed that the command has nipped in the bud all incidences of kidnappings, murder, assassinations and insurgencies in the state since late last year when he was posted to the state as CP.
