Senator-elect for Anambra South Senatorial District, Emmanuel Chibuzor Nwachukwu (popularly known as Onodugo), has called on Nigerians to rekindle the spirit of unity, sacrifice, and resilience that defined the struggles of the nation’s founding fathers.

Senator Nwachukwu made this appeal in an exclusive interview with this reporter, Izunna Okafor, on the occasion of Nigeria’s 65th Independence Day, which also coincides with the dawn of a new month. He described the double celebration as symbolic, representing renewal on one hand and resilience on the other.

The Senator-elect explained that while the start of a new month naturally comes with hopes, opportunities, and fresh beginnings, the Independence anniversary calls Nigerians to reflect on the sacrifices of the nation’s heroes past, being men and women who dreamed of and worked for a free, united, and prosperous Nigeria. He urged citizens not to allow the labours of those heroes to be in vain.

“Today, more than ever, we must rekindle that spirit of unity, sacrifice, and progress. Together, let us build communities where peace thrives, opportunities abound, and development touches every life,” he state.

The Senator Nwachukwu also reaffirmed his commitment to servant-leadership, inclusive growth, and people-oriented representation. He assured the people of Anambra South that he would prioritize equity and ensure that no community under his watch is left behind in the quest for meaningful development, while also faithfully and diligently representing their voices and interests at the National Assembly.

According to him, Nigeria’s 65th Independence anniversary offers both a challenge and an opportunity, the challenge of bridging divides that have threatened national cohesion, and the opportunity of harnessing the collective strength of Nigerians to achieve peace and prosperity. He stressed that unity remains the cornerstone of development, warning that a divided nation cannot fully realize its destiny.

In his goodwill message, Senator Nwachukwu prayed for joy, peace, and fulfillment for the people of Anambra South in the new month, while also expressing optimism that Nigeria will rise to greatness despite current challenges.

“The greatness of this country lies not in our oil or natural resources, but in our people,” he said, noting that Nigerians have proven their resilience in the face of adversity.

He further emphasized the role of youth in sustaining the nation’s future, urging young people to channel their energy into innovation, entrepreneurship, and civic responsibility rather than destructive tendencies. He expressed confidence that with the right policies and collective commitment, Nigeria can become a global hub for innovation, talent, and opportunities.

Senator Nwachukwu also called for stronger collaboration between government at all levels and citizens in building an inclusive society, noting that “nation-building is not the duty of leaders alone, but a shared responsibility of every patriotic citizen.” He described patriotism as not merely celebrating Independence Day but demonstrating it through daily acts of honesty, hard work, and community service.

While congratulating Nigerians at home and abroad on the historic milestone, he equally extended warm wishes to Ndi Anambra South and reaffirmed his personal mission to uplift the lives of his constituents through quality legislation, strategic partnerships, and people-driven projects.

“Happy Independence Day! Happy New Month! God bless Anambra South! God bless Anambra State! God bless Nigeria,” he concluded.
