Four indigenes of Imo State participating in the Christian pilgrimage to Israel and Jordan have reportedly failed to return to Nigeria with their group.
A senior official of the Imo State Government confirmed the incident.
The absconding pilgrims were part of a delegation sponsored by the state government through the Nigerian Christian Pilgrims Commission (NCPC).
According to a reliable source, authorities have initiated investigations to determine the whereabouts of the missing pilgrims, and the NCPC has pledged to enhance its screening processes to prevent such incidents in the future.
Notably, one of the absconding pilgrims is related to a high-ranking official of the All Progressives Congress, APC, in Imo State.
Security agents are currently questioning his wife at their residence.
This incident involves a group of 1,000 Imolites participating in the pilgrimage sponsored by Senator Hope Uzodimma’s administration, with the absconding individuals being part of the first batch airlifted from the Sam Mbakwe International Cargo Airport.
