History was made in Bauchi State as former President of Nigeria, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo GCFR, officially commissioned the state’s first-ever International Conference Centre (ICC), an architectural masterpiece located in the heart of the capital.
The historic commissioning ceremony, held with pomp and grandeur, marked the fulfilment of a vision conceived years ago by Governor Bala Mohammed to establish Bauchi as a centre for national and international engagements.
The journey of the project began when Governor Babagana Umara Zulum of Borno State, serving as Chairman of the North-East Governors’ Forum, performed the groundbreaking ceremony, symbolizing a strong regional collaboration. The project has since become a symbol of Bauchi State’s growing ambition to position itself as an emerging hub in Northern Nigeria.
Speaking at the event, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo praised Governor Bala Mohammed for his foresight and dedication to infrastructural transformation. He noted that in today’s interconnected world, no state or nation could afford to operate in isolation. “This International Conference Centre is more than a building — it is a statement of intent that Bauchi is open to the world,” Obasanjo remarked.
Governor Bala Mohammed, in his address, expressed deep appreciation to all dignitaries and stakeholders who supported the realization of the project. He said the initiative was aimed at opening up Bauchi State to global opportunities, enhancing its economic viability, and attracting investors in key sectors.
“This project is not just for today, but for generations to come. It is our belief that with the right infrastructure, Bauchi can become a destination for international events, business summits, and investment forums,” the governor stated.
Also speaking at the occasion, the Chief of Staff, Government House Bauchi, Dr Aminu Hassan Gamawa, commended the governor’s unwavering commitment to transforming the state. Similarly, the Commissioner for Housing and Environment, Hon. Danlami Ahmed Kawule, described the ICC as a legacy project that reflects the administration’s focus on impactful development.
The newly commissioned ICC Bauchi is expected to serve as a hub for major conferences, summits, and events in the North-East and beyond, boosting hospitality, tourism, and other critical sectors of the state’s economy.
The event was attended by top government officials, traditional rulers, business leaders, and representatives from across Nigeria, signaling the importance of the project both regionally and nationally.
