In a stern rebuke directed at former Rivers State Governor Nyesom Wike and his allies, Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri of Adamawa State has reaffirmed his commitment to the stability and unity of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), declaring that personal relationships will not be placed above the party’s collective interest.
Fintiri, who is also the Chairman of the PDP National Convention Committee, made the comments on the sidelines of the party’s preparations for its highly anticipated national convention scheduled to hold in Ibadan, Oyo State, later this month.
According to a report by Vanguard on Wednesday, September 3, 2025, tensions have been rising within the PDP following internal disagreements allegedly stirred by Wike and members of the G-5 faction. But Governor Fintiri made it clear that the convention would proceed unhindered, regardless of factional pressure.
“I will not place our relationships above this party,” Fintiri stated emphatically.
“Let us not take all our matters to the media. It is becoming too embarrassing. If you are a party man, you settle issues within the party. We will not allow indiscipline and blackmail to derail this process.”
Maturity Amid Party Tension
Fintiri’s comments are being seen by political observers as a show of leadership maturity and internal discipline, especially amid attempts by some party members to air grievances through public platforms and media confrontations.
While he did not mention Wike by name, the statement was widely interpreted as a direct response to the former governor’s recent public outbursts and criticisms of the PDP leadership.
Political watchers believe the remarks could further isolate Wike within the PDP, especially as many party stakeholders now call for unity and restraint ahead of the convention, seen as a pivotal moment for the party’s future ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Fintiri’s stand signals the PDP’s effort to shift away from internal drama and rebrand as a more cohesive and focused opposition force. With mounting pressure from both internal factions and external political realignments including the possible defection of Enugu Governor Peter Mbah to the APC the party is under increased scrutiny.
“We will not allow indiscipline and blackmail to derail this process,” Fintiri reiterated, underscoring his commitment to party procedures and institutional integrity.
His remarks have drawn praise across social media and political circles, with many calling it a “timely intervention” and “a lesson in political maturity.”
As the PDP heads into its Ibadan convention, the message from the chairman of the convention committee is clear: no personal loyalty will be allowed to override party unity, and no individual no matter how influential is bigger than the party.
