The Anambra State Police Command has confirmed that its operatives, in a joint operation with the Agunechemba Vigilante operatives, successfully foiled an armed attack on Ezinifite Community in Nnewi South Local Government Area in the early hours of Monday, October 27.

According to a press statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer of the Command, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, the security operatives swiftly responded to a distress call from the community and engaged the suspected gunmen in a fierce exchange of gunfire.

According to him, during the encounter, one of the assailants was neutralized, while others escaped into the nearby forest with suspected bullet injuries. He said a pump-action rifle and other items were recovered from the scene, alongside the body of the neutralized suspect.

The statement further noted that police tactical teams, in collaboration with local vigilante groups, have launched offensive and intelligence-led follow-up operations aimed at tracking down and apprehending the fleeing suspects. The Command also assured residents that measures have been reinforced to prevent any form of security breach, particularly as the November 8, 2025 governorship election approaches.

In his reaction, the Commissioner of Police, CP Ikioye Orutugu, commended the prompt response, courage, and vigilance of the local security team, reaffirming the Command’s commitment to the protection of lives and property across Anambra State. He also urged members of the public to remain alert, cooperate with security agencies, and promptly report suspicious movements or persons to the nearest police formation for immediate action.
