For the first time in the history of Onitsha commercial town four fire service stations are currently being constructed by the Mayor of Onitsha South local government area Chief Emeka Joseph Orji.
Similarly construction work has commenced for the building of three basketball courts in the area.
According to the Mayor of Onitsha South local government area Chief Emeka Joseph Orji the commercial town has never had a fire service stations adding that the area rely on the fire service station at Asaba Delta state and Awka fire service station in the event of fire outbreak.
“It has become instructive that we build those fire service stations and to save the embarrassment faced by the people of Onitsha when there is fire outbreak”
“The four fire service stations are being built at strategic areas and places where they can be accessible and this different from yet another fire stations that would be built at the major markets in Onitsha”
Orji further explained that the three basketball courts ares being constructed as part of providing sports facilities for the residents in Onitsha adding that at the moment work has reached advanced stages.
“,We are deliberate about what we are doing because places that should have provided recreational facilities are non existent and it is not only markets and shops that Onitsha needs but infrastructures of this nature”
“Sporting facilities would also have eateries and other relaxation places where people can hang out and enjoy themselves and this is yet another way of encouraging our youths to actualize their dreams and showcase their great potentials” he stated .
Orji urged public spirited individuals and those in the private sector to key Into the concept of sponsoring sports activities in the area as their corporate social responsibilities.
