The Anambra State Police Command has uncovered and dismantled an illegal factory engaged in the production of fake and toxic drinks in Okpoko, Ogbaru Local Government Area of the State.
In a press statement issued on Sunday, the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, said the operation was carried out on September 3, 2025, by operatives of the Rapid Response Squad, Awkuzu. He disclosed that one suspect, identified as Chigozie Okafor, aged 48, was arrested at the scene in connection with the illicit activity.
According to the statement, several fake juice drinks branded as “Iyi Obeleagu Juice” were recovered during the raid. Investigations revealed that the products were being manufactured without approval from the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC), and were considered highly toxic and harmful to both adults and children.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Ikioye Orutugu, fwc MNIPS PhD, has directed a thorough investigation to track down other accomplices and ensure that all those involved in the criminal enterprise are brought to justice.
CP Orutugu also issued a stern warning to individuals engaging in such unlawful and dangerous ventures to desist immediately, stressing that the Police Command will not relent in its responsibility of protecting the health and safety of Ndi Anambra.
The Command reassured the public of its unwavering commitment to safeguarding lives and maintaining public health standards across the State.
