The Anambra State Police Command has debunked a trending video circulating on social media which falsely claims that a senior police officer is aiding kidnapping and other violent crimes in the state.
In a statement issued on Friday, September 19, 2025, by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, the Police described the video as false, mischievous, and malicious. He further noted that it was a calculated attempt to tarnish the image of the Nigeria Police Force and demonize the officer in question.
“For the avoidance of doubt, the officer featured in the video is an Assistant Commissioner of Police who is not serving in Anambra State Police Command,” the statement clarified, adding that the said officer remains one of the pride of the Force, both in character and crime-fighting.
The Command urged the public to disregard the video, emphasizing that Anambra has, in recent years, recorded remarkable progress in the fight against violent crimes, especially kidnapping.
According to the Police Spokesman, this progress has been made possible through the combined efforts of Ndi Anambra and security agencies working hand-in-hand to resist and condemn criminality.
SP Ikenga further praised the sacrifices of security operatives across the state, stressing that their efforts in safeguarding lives and property have continued to yield positive results.
He, however, warned that the Command will not hesitate to invoke the relevant provisions of the Cybercrime Act to ensure that the originators of the trending malicious video are tracked and brought to justice.
“The sacrifices of our security operatives are not in vain. We call on the general public to disregard the misleading video and remain resolute in supporting lawful security efforts.
Meanwhile, the Command shall invoke the relevant Cybercrime Laws to ensure that the originators of this malicious content do not go unpunished,” he concluded, while also reassuring Ndi Anambra of its commitment to transparency, professionalism, and continued protection of lives and property.
