The Anambra State Commissioner of Police, CP Ikioye Orutugu, fwc MNIPS PhD, has reassured and reaffirmed his leadership’s commitment to proactive policing, airtight security and officers welfare in the State.
The CP gave the reassurance on Thursday when he convened a high-level strategic meeting with senior officers of the Command, and during which he also doled out welfare cheques worth worth a total of ₦59,186,177.62 (fifty-nine million, one hundred and eighty-six thousand, one hundred and seventy-seven naira, sixty-two kobo) to families of Police officers who lost their lives in the line of duty.
This was confirmed in a statement issued on Thursday by the Police Public Relations Officer of the Command, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, who said the strategic meeting brought together Area Commanders, Tactical Commanders, and Divisional Police Officers (DPOs) under the Command.
According to the statement, the meeting, which held at the Police Command Headquarters in Awka, also served as a platform to review operational strategies, strengthen intelligence-led policing, and reinforce proactive security measures across the State.
The statement said CP Orutugu, in his address at the meeting, charged the officers to remain disciplined, professional, and community-focused, while intensifying visibility patrols, surveillance, and intelligence sharing. He stressed the need for collaboration with stakeholders as a vital driver of effective policing, and further directed that existing security gains be consolidated to sustain law and order in Anambra.
While reassuring his commitment to personnel welfare, CP presented the ₦59,186,177.62 cheques to 38 families of Police officers who paid the supreme price while serving the nation. He revealed that the cheques were from the Inspector-General of Police’s Group Life Insurance/Family Welfare Scheme, designed to support the families of officers who died in active duty.
Describing the gesture as a reflection of the Nigeria Police Force leadership’s commitment to the welfare of both personnel and their loved ones, he further assured that the sacrifices of the fallen heroes would never be forgotten.
According to the statement, the CP, in addition to the cheques, also extended cash support, on behalf of the officers and men of the Command, to the family of an Inspector who lost his life while bravely repelling insurgents at Aguata. He pledged that the Command would continue to stand by the families of officers who laid down their lives in the service of the State and the country.
Reiterating his call for stronger community partnership, CP Orutugu urged Ndi Anambra to continue to support the Police with credible information and cooperation, stressing that policing cannot succeed without the trust and collaboration of the people.
In his words, the Command remains committed to sustaining peace, security, and orderliness across the State.
