The ongoing feud between Nollywood actor Yul Edochie’s estranged wife, May Edochie, and her former legal counsel, Emeka Ugwuonye, has taken a dramatic turn following a series of explosive allegations made by Ugwuonye in a lengthy Facebook post.
In the post, Ugwuonye accused May of fabricating key details about her marriage and divorce proceedings, claiming she misled the public and manipulated narratives to gain sympathy. The lawyer, who previously represented May during her legal battle with Yul Edochie, stated that he felt compelled to speak out after what he described as “a betrayal of trust.”
Key Allegations Made by Ugwuonye:
– May and Yul’s marriage was allegedly not founded on love but was a result of an unplanned pregnancy when May was 24 and Yul was 22.
– He claimed May falsely accused Yul of threatening her with a firearm, calling the allegation “completely false.”
– Ugwuonye alleged that May had long been aware of Yul’s relationship with Judy Austin and had condoned it.
– He described May as financially dependent, stating she had no money and that Yul was the sole breadwinner during their marriage.
– Regarding May’s recent claims of being saddled with three bank loans, Ugwuonye questioned their origin and Yul’s responsibility for them.
– He asserted that May initially had no intention of divorcing Yul but was more interested in traveling abroad, with divorce being a “last-minute decision.”
– Ugwuonye also claimed Yul had been paying child support consistently until May and her supporters allegedly misrepresented her as the breadwinner.
The post has ignited a firestorm of reactions across social media, with supporters of both parties clashing over the credibility of the claims. While some netizens have praised Ugwuonye for “speaking the truth,” others have condemned the public airing of private matters, especially given the sensitive nature of the allegations.
In response to the escalating tension, May Edochie, through her legal team at Graylaw Partners, has issued a cease-and-desist notice against Ugwuonye, accusing him of cyberbullying, defamation, and breach of trust. She is demanding ₦1 billion in damages and a public apology.
As the drama unfolds, the Edochie family continues to face intense public scrutiny, with many calling for privacy and restraint from all parties involved.
