The Bauchi State Governor, Senator Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed, has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to transparency and sustainable development as he unveiled a series of transformative projects funded by the ₦17 billion allocation from the federal government’s Natural Resources Development Fund.
The announcement came during a courtesy visit by a delegation from the Revenue Mobilisation Allocation and Fiscal Commission (RMAFC), led by Ambassador Desmond Akawor, who commended the state’s prudent use of the funds.
Governor Mohammed expressed appreciation to former President Muhammadu Buhari for approving the fund and to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for facilitating its release. He disclosed that ₦7 billion of the total sum has been placed in escrow to ensure accountability and safeguard public trust.
The governor outlined several landmark projects already underway, including:
– Bauchi Oil and Gas Academy, Alkaleri: A specialized institution aimed at building local capacity in solid minerals and energy sectors.
– Fertilizer Blending Plant Upgrade: Modernization efforts in collaboration with OCP Morocco to boost agricultural productivity.
– Irrigation Pilot Schemes: Implemented across all senatorial districts to enhance food security and rural livelihoods.
– Yankari Game Reserve Revamp: Installation of solar-powered infrastructure ahead of its planned concession at the upcoming Bauchi Investment Summit.
“These initiatives are designed to unlock the full potential of our natural resources, strengthen agricultural and mineral value chains, and create meaningful employment for our youth,” Governor Mohammed stated.
In response, Ambassador Akawor emphasized that the RMAFC’s visit was in line with presidential directives to monitor fund utilization. He praised the state’s progress, particularly at the Oil and Gas Academy and Yankari Game Reserve, noting that the commission was “highly impressed” with the level of execution and impact.
The governor’s strategic deployment of the Natural Resources Fund is being hailed as a model for other states, positioning Bauchi as a rising hub for resource-based development and investment.
