National Working Committee (NWC) of the Social Democratic Party (SDP)has announced the dissolution of the party’s Executive Committee in Anambra state ahead of conduct of the 2027 general election in the country.
In it’s place, the National Working Committee( NWC) has set up a Caretaker Executive Committee to over see the affairs of the party pending the conduct of party Congresses in the area.
Also the (NWC) dissolved the party Executive in some other states in the country in a bid towards repositioning the party for the coming general elections .
State Publicity Secretary of the SDP Mr Uchem Obi in a statement explained that this development is in line with the focus of the party which is in tandem with the amended relevant sections of it’s constitution.
“This is in tune with the party’s focus and determination to reposition the party in the state, as the country gears towards the 2027 general elections”
“The dissolution of the past Executive and the constitution of a new a Caretaker Committee is in line with the 2022 Constitution of the Party, as amended and intended to revamp the party and reach the grassroots with the SDP message of functionality, accountability and service” he said.
Uchem Obi further announced that the former candidate that contested for Awka North and South Federal Constituency Hon Prince Chinedu Ekwunife and Mr Udoka Onyezubelu are the Caretaker Chairman and Secretary of the party respectively.
“Leading this charge for resurgence is the new Chairman, Hon. Prince Chinedu Ekwunife, who was the Party’s candidate in 2023 for Awka North and South Federal Constituency an experienced political strategist, who is well known for strong grassroots influence”
“The Secretary is Mr. Udoka Onyezubelu, another grassroots technocrat” he noted.
Uchem Obi dismissed claims from some quarters that it has to do with the November 8th gubernatorial election in Anambra state adding that it is the National decision of the party .
“It is important to note that this has nothing to do with the Anambra state gubernatorial election coming up on the month of November and it is an internal affairs of the party ”
Also in his acceptance speech the Caretaker Chairman of the party Hon Prince Chinedu Ekwunife expressed the desire of the new executive to better repositioning of the party towards recovering it’s winning ways and to creat a level playing ground for party faithfuls to function optimally during the elections and after.
