A political campaign rally in Basawa constituency, Sabon Gari, Zaria turned chaotic today as angry youths booed and attacked the convoy of Kaduna State Governor, Senator Uba Sani, and Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Tajudeen Abbas.
The incident occurred as the duo arrived the area for a scheduled campaign event. Eyewitnesses reported that the crowd, largely composed of disenchanted youths, began chanting anti-government slogans and throwing objects at the convoy, forcing security operatives to intervene swiftly to restore order.
Multiple videos circulating online captured the tense moment. In one clip, shared by Jabir Ishaq, Governor Uba Sani is seen commissioning a road project in a calmer setting, contrasting sharply with the hostility faced in Basawa The moment Governor Uba Sani commissioned the newly constructed FGC Malali Road highlighting the volatility of political reception across different constituencies.
Other footage from social media platforms like X (formerly Twitter) show the convoy being jeered and pelted by youths, with captions describing the event as a major embarrassment for the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
The Speaker, who hails from Zaria and has recently been praised for his grassroots empowerment initiatives, including the distribution of vehicles and work tools to constituents, appeared visibly shaken by the reception. Governor Sani, known for his agricultural and infrastructural interventions across Kaduna State, has yet to issue an official statement.
Political analysts suggest the incident may reflect growing frustration among youths over unmet expectations, economic hardship, or internal party tensions. The attack comes amid heightened political activity ahead of the 2027 general elections, with opposition figures like former Governor Nasir El-Rufai openly criticizing the APC and President Tinubu’s administration.
Security forces have since secured the area, and no injuries have been officially reported. The Kaduna State Government is expected to launch an investigation into the incident.
