Governor Bala Mohammed Celebrates General Ibrahim Babangida at 84

The Executive Governor of Bauchi State, His Excellency Senator Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed , has extended heartfelt birthday wishes to Nigeria’s former Military President, General Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida (GCFR), as he marks his 84th birthday.

In a press release issued by Mukhtar Gidado, Special Adviser on Media and Publicity to the Governor, Bala Mohammed praised Babangida as a “towering figure in Nigeria’s history,” lauding his legacy as a patriot, strategist whose contributions remain deeply etched in the country’s political and socio-economic fabric.

“General Babangida remains a leader whose vision and commitment to national unity and development have continued to inspire generations,” the Governor stated. “As you celebrate this milestone, we celebrate not just the gift of longevity and grace upon your life, but also the wealth of wisdom, resilience, and enduring contributions you have made in shaping the destiny of our great country.”

Governor Mohammed emphasized Babangida’s life as a testament to service, sacrifice, and statesmanship, and offered prayers for continued health, peace of mind, and many more fulfilling years ahead.

The tribute from Bauchi State joins a chorus of national recognition, with leaders across Nigeria including President Bola Tinubu and Niger State Governor Mohammed Umaru Bago also celebrating Babangida’s legacy. President Tinubu hailed Babangida’s bold reforms and infrastructural strides, while Governor Bago described him as a “beacon of hope” and “living legend”.

General Babangida, who served as Nigeria’s Head of State from 1985 to 1993, is widely remembered for his role in liberalizing the economy, establishing key national institutions, and relocating the federal capital to Abuja.

As tributes pour in from across the country, the elder statesman’s enduring influence on Nigeria’s development continues to be celebrated by both contemporaries and younger generations.
