A Prominent political analyst and commentator, Ahmad Shuaibu Gara Gombe, has issued a stark warning to the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Gombe State, highlighting a series of challenges that could threaten the party’s stability and legacy as Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya’s administration enters its final stretch.
In a widely circulated commentary, Gara Gombe known for his candid assessments praised Governor Yahaya as “one of the best performing governors in Nigeria today,” but cautioned that the remaining years of his tenure must be navigated with strategic foresight and political tact.
Gara Gombe emphasized that the choice of a successor will be a defining moment for Governor Yahaya and the APC. He warned that a misstep could trigger internal strife akin to the political fallout currently unfolding in Kaduna State between Governor Uba Sani and former Governor Nasir El-Rufai. “Succession is not just about loyalty it’s about competence, continuity, and cohesion,” Gara Gombe stated.
While commending Yahaya’s infrastructural achievements, Gara Gombe expressed concern that many of the state’s flagship projects may be abandoned by future administrations. He urged the governor to propose a Projects Sustainability Bill to the State House of Assembly to safeguard ongoing initiatives beyond his tenure.
However, The analyst also raised red flags over alleged corruption within ministries, departments, and agencies (MDAs). He claimed that recent audits have exposed financial irregularities and called on Governor Yahaya to take decisive action to protect his legacy.“The time to clean house is now. Delay only emboldens impunity,” he warned.
Looking forward Life After Office: Kingmaker or Senator?
On the governor’s post-tenure ambitions, Gara Gombe advised against pursuing a senatorial seat, suggesting instead that Yahaya embrace the role of a statesman and kingmaker.“The parliament of Nigeria does not fit GIYU,” he said, referencing the governor’s popular acronym.
Gara Gombe revealed growing dissatisfaction among some of Yahaya’s long-time political allies, who feel sidelined and unrewarded. He proposed a Reunion Dinner to reconcile and honor those who contributed to the governor’s political journey since 2011.
More alarmingly, he alleged that several commissioners, advisers, and party officials are secretly engaging with opposition figures and considering defection to the African Democratic Congress (ADC). He hinted at plans to publicly name those involved.
Despite his concerns, Gara Gombe lauded the recent approval of Local Development Areas (LDAs) by the State House of Assembly, describing it as a bold step toward grassroots empowerment. He promised to release a detailed opinion on the initiative soon.
In closing, he offered prayers for the governor and the people of Gombe State: “God bless H.E GIYU. God bless Gombe State and our people.”
As the countdown to election begins, Gara Gombe’s commentary serves as both a tribute and a cautionary tale urging Governor Yahaya and the APC to tread carefully in the face of political uncertainty.
