Nigerian social media influencer and activist, Martins Otse, popularly known as VeryDarkMan, has arrived Anambra State for the proposed candlelight procession for Awka-based fish dealer, Mr. Ifesinachi Onyekere (popularly known as Fish Magnet), who was recently kidnapped and murdered by yet-to-be-identified gunmen in the state.
Recall that the prominent fish dealer and Managing Director of Fish Magnet Outlet, was abducted at his residence in Ezinifite village, Okpuno, in Awka South Local Government Area of the State on Sunday, July 27. He was reportedly trailed by the assailants who, during the violent invasion, shot him in the leg and forcefully whisked him away to an unknown destination, a journey he never returned alive.
The unfortunate incident and gruesome murder of Fish Magnet, who was an only son, attracted condemnation from good-spirited individuals and netizens, including VeryDarkMan, who declared that publicly mourned his demise and announced plans to organize a candlelight procession for him in Anambra.
It’s in keeping of this promise that the social media activist arrived the state on Sunday ahead of the proposed procession.
Announcing his arrival in video shared through his social media handles, VeryDarkMan said the candlelight procession would not hold on Monday due to Sit-at-Home.
He noted that further details about the candlelight procession, including the takeoff venue, date and time, would be announced on Monday. He further called for the cooperation of the Anambra State Police Command, especially by providing security during and throughout the procession, which is expected to attract a large turnout of mourners, fans, friends, and activists.
His words: “I’m in Anambra State because of the candlelight I spoke about for Fish Magnet, who is my namesake, Martins. Sadly, he was a victim of bad leadership in Nigeria, insecurity that have been constantly overlooked by our government. Fish Magnet was a victim of kidnappers who kidnapped him at the front of his workplace and then he was later shot and he didn’t come back alive.
“So we are going to do a candlelight for him, not just that, it’s to also raise awareness on the insecurity issues that is happening in Anambra, not just Anambra State, every part of the East and the whole part of Nigeria.
“Tomorrow is sit-at-home here in Anambra, so we can’t really do anything tomorrow, but I will relate the place we are gathering tomorrow and where we are starting our work from. I will also expect the members of the Nigerian police to please come and support us by providing security because, obviously, the state is looking like it might not be safe.
“I don’t know, you understand, I cannot just do this thing without you guys. So please, by tomorrow, I’m going to relate the date, the time, and where we are meeting up here in Anambra State.”
