Former member of the Federal House of Representatives for Anambra East and West Constituency Chief Chinedu Obidigwe has dismissed the call for the disbandment of the Agunechemba Security Squad, the operational arm of the Udo Ga Chi Security Operations contending that it would take Anambra state back to Egyptian Captivity of deepening insecurity in Anambra state.
Recall that the trio of the Young Democratic Party YPP gubernatorial candidate Sir Paul Chukwuma, the Labour Party gubernatorial candidate Chief George Moghalu and the candidate of the All Progressives Congress APC Prince Nicholas Ukachukwu had called for the disbandment of Agunechemba Security Squad following the assault on a female member of the National Youth Service Corps NYSC.
According to Obidigwe who spoke with reporters in Awka, the unfortunate and and condemnable incident is not enough to shot down the security outfit which has battled insecurity in Anambra state.
Obidigwe further stated that the Anambra state government, has already interfaced with the female corps member and family adding that it should not discourage it from its primary responsibility of guaranteeing the safety of lives and property of Anambra people.
“It is indeed sad that this incident occured in Anambra state and I extend my heart felt sympathy to our daughter who was the victim, however this is not enough for us to throw away the baby with the birth water”
“,In the last three years Anambra state has witnessed a breath of fresh air in the area of security though there may not be a perfect society security wise”
Continuing Obidigwe contended that ;
“,The Anambra state government has been on the top of the issue and so far and it has been interfacing with the lady in question and her family which I must salute Mr Governor and his wife for this show of compassion to this our daughter even if she is not from Anambra state,yet she is our daughter ”
“For those who claim to be in opposition, they know quite well that the Agunechemba Security Squad has been performing and their relatives can attest to that including all of them ”
“Let us not play politics with the security of lives and property of Anambra state rather we should make meaningful contributions to the improvement of our security architecture than casting blames on the government because security is localized ”
Obidigwe challenged the three gubernatorial candidates to state in clear terms what contributions they have made so far in the security of Anambra state because according to him, it doesn’t stop at making criticisms.
“, I wish to urge our governor Prof Charles Soludo not to be distracted by the antics of the opposition and remain focused in what he is doing as well as the Commander of Agunechemba Security Squad Prince Kenneth Emeakayi the Special Adviser on Community to continue in that stade and sustaining the training and retraining of the operatives of Agunechemba Security Squad in the process ” he noted.
