Former Osun State Governor and current National Secretary of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Rauf Aregbesola, has issued a scathing critique of President Bola Tinubu’s administration, warning that Nigeria is teetering on the edge of collapse due to escalating insecurity, poverty, and the soaring cost of living.
In a statement that has sparked widespread debate, Aregbesola declared, “We must act now to save Nigeria from the Bola Tinubu administration.” He painted a grim picture of the nation’s current state, citing the inability of many families to afford basic necessities such as food and medical care.
Aregbesola lamented the pervasive insecurity across the country, describing how criminal elements have laid siege to communities, rendering economic and social activities nearly impossible. “People now live in mortal fear for their lives and property,” he said, emphasizing the psychological toll on citizens.
The former Interior Minister also highlighted the collapse of the healthcare system, noting that the cost of medical services and drugs has become prohibitively expensive. “Many of the sick are left waiting to die unless a miracle comes their way,” he stated, underscoring the desperation faced by vulnerable Nigerians.
Aregbesola warned that starvation is “literally stalking the land,” as inflation continues to erode purchasing power. Even relatively well-off individuals, he said, are overwhelmed by pleas for help from those in need. “There’s a limit to how much the people can be squeezed and pushed before something eventually gives,” he cautioned.
The remarks come amid growing tensions between Aregbesola and the Tinubu-led All Progressives Congress (APC). Having defected to the ADC, Aregbesola has emerged as a vocal critic of the current administration, positioning himself as a key figure in the opposition’s bid to challenge the ruling party in the 2027 elections.
His comments have drawn both support and condemnation, with pro-Tinubu groups accusing him of betrayal, while opposition voices hail his courage in speaking out against what they describe as a failing government.
As Nigeria grapples with economic hardship and political uncertainty, Aregbesola’s warning may serve as a rallying cry for those seeking change. Whether it leads to meaningful reform or deepens partisan divisions remains to be seen.
