The reaction to Gov Charles Soludo’s statement at the Anambra South Senatorial District party rally about those who need psychiatric examination of serving one term as governor have drawn fresh battle lines between the All Progressives Grand Alliance APGA and the Labour Party as the National Publicity Secretary Mazi Ejimofor Opara dismisses traducers insisting that his boss has been vindicated.
Soludo’s statement had drawn the anger of some members of the Obidient Family and the Labour Party who alleged that those statements were targeted at their Presidential candidate Mr Peter Obi.
They further alleged that Gov Charles Soludo has consistently attacked the former governor noting that it shows desperation.
According to Soludo on that fateful day, anybody contesting the governorship election from Anambra-South is trying to disrupt the zoning system in the state. He said some people are going around lying to the people that they would do just one tenure, if elected : when the Constitution allows one eight years of two tenures.
He said such individual should be taken to a psychiatric home for mental examinations because those persons must have some mental problems.
Speaking to reporters in Awka, the National Publicity Secretary of APGA Mazi Ejimofor Opara stated that the constant linking of the honest and patriotic statements of Soludo as an affront against Peter Obi has become a National embarrassment to the Igbo race and very overbearing adding that Soludo was addressing issues concerning the rotation and zoning of the gubernatorial position of Anambra state and neither refered to National politics nor to any specific politician insisting that it is most unbecoming.
“Both him and his supporters and their views are becoming very overbearing and a National embarrassment to Ndigbo and it is not something that anybody can just take lightly”
“I liken it to what happened to the incusion of non state actors into the South East; a situation nobody has taken his mind to reason anymore and the entire thing is laddened with so much emotions and history is about to repeat it’s about Peter Obi”
Ejimofor contended that the former governor is not circumspect as there was no reason why his people or himself should put up a response in the first place.
“When we fact checked on his response, it shows that he has a poor knowledge of history”
“Soludo made a statement obviously looking at the political moment in the state and on the dot , he reacted and Soludo never mentioned any name or discussed the politics of the Nation but that of zoning and rotation in Anambra state”
“Those reacting have now vindicated Soludo by accepting that they are among those that need psychiatric examination and that is the implication of what they have done and one marvels at what they have done ”
Ejimofor noted that much as Anambra state is interested in promoting leadership, one must also be mindful about the characters of those aspiring to lead the people adding that if anyone cannot stand the heat in the kitchen, he or she should leave the kitchen.
