A widow from Ufuma in Orumba North Local Government Area of Anambra State, Mrs. Chidimma Orah, has regained custody of her late husband’s cõrpse after it was allegedly seized by her in-laws, thanks to the intervention of the Anambra State Government.
In a video recently shared by the State Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Welfare, headed by Commissioner Ify Obinabo, Mrs. Orah recounted her ordeal and expressed heartfelt appreciation to Governor Chukwuma Charles Soludo and the Ministry for stepping in to resolve the matter.
According to her, the cõrpse had been in the possession of her in-laws, who disrupted the burial ceremony originally scheduled for May 1, 2025, and allegedly demanded that she relinquish her house before releasing her husband’s remains.
The intervention by the Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Welfare, which aligns with the Governor’s zero tolerance for intimidation, abuse, and unlawful practices, led to securing a court order granting the widow access to the seized cõrpse. Mrs. Orah said she was able to confirm and access the corpse at its new location in Isulo Mortuary, Orumba North LGA.
“My joy is that I have now seen my husband’s corpse and will soon be able to give him a proper burial. I wish to thank our Solution Governor for his good works and the Ministry for their strong support. I also hope they will continue to assist others in similar situations,” she said.
She further urged victims of abuse or oppression not to suffer in silence but to speak out, stressing that Governor Soludo’s administration remains committed to justice and protection for all citizens.
