A group known as ADC Youth Frontiers has condemned what it described as ‘Unpresidential’ remarks made against it’s national secretary, Mr. Rauf Aregbesola by the Special Adviser to the President on Media, Mr. Adebayo Onanuga.
In a statement released to newsmen in Enugu on Tuesday by the national publicity secretary of the group, Apostle Edwin Abor, the group said, it’s unfortunate that the presidency could leave the challenging tasks of leadership and be threatening our national secretary as well as raising moral questions about his new political identity.
Ordinarily, we would have ignored the presidency over the remarks because ADC is not a party that engage in trivialities when the citizenry are hungry and needed laudable actions from their government; but because Mr. Onanuga wants to make himself a cheap hero with false information, we decided to set the records straight.
First, our national secretary is never in deny of the role God Almighty used President Bola Tinubu to play in his life because we are all like pencils in the hands of the Almighty and he use us to write whatever he wants in the life anyone.
Besides, in the affairs of men, it is only God that determines our destiny.
Second, our national secretary has never and will never insult President Tinubu as a person but his respect for the President cannot becloud his sense of loyalty to the nation and where his loyalty to Nigeria’s interest stands against the interest of the President, the nation’s interest must stand taller than any other interests because of the pledge he made to the nation — “To serve Nigeria with all his strength and to defend her unity and uphold her honour and glory at all times.”
Accordingly, one thing Mr. Onanuga and his co-travellers failed to realised is the fact that both our national secretary and the President have never disagreed on whether Nigeria should move forward or not, but their area of disagreement is on the best strategy to moving the nation forward faster.
It is on the ground of the best strategy to moving the nation faster that our national secretary decided to seek a democratic alternative since the ultimate goal is to ‘build a nation where no man is oppressed and through peace and plenty, Nigeria may be blessed.’
Hence, if our national secretary decided to further express his love and loyalty to the nation by joining ADC, a political party he feels strongly has the ideology to take the nation to it’s promised land faster which may be different from the ideology of the President, we believe our national secretary has done no wrong to warrant such a threat from Mr. Onanuga.
“The young shall grow” is a popular cliche in our country, but the young should also be given the freedom to fully express themselves on a trajectory that is different from that of the elders.
Therefore, we support our national secretary and would defend him in all frontiers.
