In an era of shifting alliances and high-stakes political recalibration, a daring strategy has emerged from the shadows of power chessboards. The wish list, imaginative yet rooted in plausible political mechanics, sketches out a bold scenario that could dramatically reshape Nigeria’s political terrain.
However, In this speculative roadmap, Rabiu Kwankwaso, former Kano Governor and prominent northern figure, makes an unexpected pivot joining the All Progressives Congress (APC). The real shockwave follows: President Bola Ahmed Tinubu selects Kwankwaso as his new running mate. In this revised equation, Kashim Shettima, Tinubu’s current Vice President, allegedly steps aside in protest, throwing his support behind an emerging opposition.
With Shettima, an influential Northeasterner, siding with the coalition, the region becomes a fortress of support. Historically a swing zone, the Northeast’s allegiance could deliver strategic momentum to a rising opposition front creating a cascading effect across neighboring states.

While the final domino? Abdullahi Ganduje, former Governor of Kano, described in this scenario as “ungrateful,” allegedly rebels against the new configuration. His fallout with the APC leadership causes cracks in party unity and a possible vote swing in Kano, Nigeria’s most populous state. Political drama, indeed, is in full motion.
The architects of this strategy emphasize pragmatism: it’s about numbers, not nostalgia. Sentiments may cloud judgment, but electoral victories rely on coalition-building, regional strength, and vote bank arithmetic. What’s clear is that the path to power in Nigeria is rarely linear it’s a winding road carved by bold moves, restless ambitions, and shifting loyalties.
Whether this permutation and stake is fantasy or foresight, it underscores a crucial truth: in Nigerian politics, today’s ally may be tomorrow’s rival and vice versa. For political watchers, this scenario isn’t just drama for drama’s sake. It’s a reminder that strategy sometimes ruthless, often brilliant remains the lifeblood of leadership.
