In a major political development, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has confirmed active efforts to bring back former Anambra State Governor and 2023 Labour Party presidential candidate, Mr. Peter Obi, into its ranks. Speaking in an interview with Arise Television, PDP Deputy National Publicity Secretary, Hon. Ibrahim Abdullahi, described Peter Obi as “a great capital for any political party,” emphasizing the party’s resolve to reunite with the former member. “Every political party that gets the opportunity to have him will be at an advantage. And certainly, PDP is not giving up on that effort,” Abdullahi stated.

Abdullahi went further to commend Obi’s performance in the 2023 presidential elections, where the Labour Party candidate garnered over six million votes despite reported institutional challenges and electoral irregularities. “If he had not gone the way he did in the last dispensation and had not faced the obstacles that were placed in his path, we are confident he would have performed even better,” he added.

Peter Obi, who parted ways with the PDP shortly before the 2023 primaries, eventually finished third in the presidential race behind PDP’s Atiku Abubakar and APC’s Bola Ahmed Tinubu. His campaign, built on youth engagement and reform-oriented governance, resonated strongly with urban voters and younger demographics cementing his status as a powerful opposition figure.

Political analysts suggest that his potential return to the PDP could reshape the opposition bloc ahead of future elections. While no formal confirmation has been made from Obi’s camp, sources indicate ongoing consultations.

As Nigeria inches closer to another election cycle, the unfolding drama around party alliances and political realignments promises to keep citizens and observers riveted.
