The Anambra State Government has assured residents of Obosi and the general public that decisive steps are being taken to address the recent clash involving operatives of the Special Anti-Touting Squad Agency (SASA) and some individuals in Obosi, Idemili North Local Government Area.

The unfortunate incident, which led to destruction of property and heightened tension in the area, is already under thorough investigation, with the government promising swift and firm action to prevent a recurrence.

Reacting to the incident through a statement issued on Friday by the State Commissioner for Information, Dr. Law Mefor, the government acknowledged the concerns raised by the public over the conduct of SASA operatives and stressed that the squad is currently undergoing reorganisation. This move, the government noted, is aimed at enhancing professionalism, accountability and efficiency in the operations of the anti-touting squad.

“The Anambra State Government is actively investigating the recent clash between Special Anti-Touting Squad (SASA) operatives and individuals in Obosi, Idemili North Local Government Area, which led to property damage.

“We assure the people of Obosi and the general public that we will take decisive action to prevent similar incidents in the future.

“To enhance professionalism and efficiency, SASA is undergoing reorganisation. This step aims to ensure the squad operates effectively and responsibly,” the statement read.

While calling for calm, the government urged residents of Obosi and other parts of the state to cooperate with ongoing investigations, even as it reaffirmed its commitment to safeguarding lives and property, maintaining public order and promoting a peaceful atmosphere for socio-economic activities to thrive.
