In a bold political move ahead of the 2027 general elections, the Northern Minority Consultative Forum has officially declared its support for a joint presidential ticket featuring Peter Obi and Governor Bala Mohammed. The endorsement was announced during a press briefing held in Kano, where the Forum’s spokesman, Yusuf Burga, outlined the group’s vision for a new leadership trajectory in Nigeria.
Burga revealed that the Forum comprises members from across Nigeria’s major political parties including the APC, PDP, LP, SDP, NNPP, and ADC united by a shared mission to “rescue the country from leadership ineptitude” under the current APC-led administration of President Bola Tinubu.
“We are not bound by party lines but by a common goal: to restore credibility, integrity, and purposeful governance to Nigeria,” Yusuf Burga stated.
The Forum emphasized that its endorsement of Obi and Bala is rooted in their perceived track records of transparency, competence, and national appeal. According to Burga, the duo represents a “perfect combination” capable of redeeming Nigeria from what he described as “a government of jackals and hyenas.”
The Forum has launched a nationwide consultation and voter mobilization campaign aimed at encouraging citizens to vote based on merit rather than party loyalty. The initiative will target grassroots communities, youth organizations, and civil society groups across the 19 northern states.
Political analysts note that this endorsement adds momentum to the growing coalition of opposition figures seeking to challenge President Tinubu’s re-election bid. However, skepticism remains among some northern stakeholders, who question Obi’s appeal in the region and the viability of a cross-party alliance.
However, the Forum insists that the 2027 elections must mark a turning point for Nigeria’s democracy. “We are calling on Nigerians to rise above tribal and partisan sentiments. Obi and Bala offer a credible alternative to the status quo,” Burga concluded.
Peter Obi, former governor of Anambra State and 2023 Labour Party presidential candidate has remain a political force to reckon with, he has remained active in national politics, while Bala Mohammed currently as a former Senator Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed and serves as the governor of Bauchi State. Both figures have been vocal critics of the Tinubu administration’s economic and security policies.
As the political landscape continues to shift, the Northern Minority Consultative Forum’s endorsement could signal a broader realignment ahead of the 2027 polls.
