Veteran entertainer Charles Oputa, also known as Charly Boy and the organizer of the Our Mumu Don Do movement, has supported the idea that Lagos State does not belong to any specific tribe in Nigeria.
Echoing the popular saying “Lagos is a no man’s land,” Charly Boy compared this vibrant coastal city to New York City in the United States.
Charly Boy voiced his dissatisfaction with the Bariga Local Council Development Area (LCDA) in Lagos State for changing a well-known bus stop’s name from his to Olamide Baddo, after celebrated hip-hop artist Olamide Adedeji. He shared this during an interview on News Central TV.
He remarked, “Lagos was our first capital and is home to people from various ethnic backgrounds who contribute to its vibrancy. In that sense, it resembles America—a melting pot of immigrants—where you can observe how Donald Trump is disrupting everything.”
“From that viewpoint, regarding people coming together, it truly feels like uncharted territory; it’s similar to New York. Lagos is the New York of Nigeria.”
Charly Boy, also known as Area Fada, criticized the Lagos State Government for “being nervous” and engaging in “tribal politics.”
