Insecurity: Plateau safer than many states in Nigeria – Mutfwang

LATEST NEWS

Gov. Caleb Mutfwang of Plateau says that the insecurity situation in the state is mild when compared to others, particularly states within the North-Central region of the country.

The governor said this during an interactive session with journalists on Tuesday in Jos.

Mutfwang, who described the recent violent killings in the state as worrisome, however, said that the state government had put modalities in place to address the situation.

The governor said that the security challenges in the state proceeded his administration, adding that government efforts in addressing the menace would soon manifest.

“When we came on board, we were confronted by myriad of challenges and the first was, of course, the issue of security.

“It’s unfortunate that the security challenges have not abated as we had hoped and sometimes it’s difficult for people to appreciate what the government has done when these killings continue.

“I want you to know that if we hadn’t done the much we had done with the intelligence at our disposal, by now Plateau would have been a different place.

“I’m glad to tell you that, in fact, among the states in north-central Nigeria, Plateau is relatively safer than others.

“Yes, because at the moment, we do not have any Local Government Area in Plateau that is completely a no go area,” he said.

The governor, however, promised to restratgise and rejig some existing policies towards ensuring the safety of lives and property in the state.

Mutfwang further promised to boost the capacity of Operation Rainbow, the state’s owned security outfit, towards enhancing intelligence gathering.

He also promised to collaborate and support the military and other security agencies in safeguarding the residents of the state and their properties.

“As these security challenges continue to confront us, we will continue to redouble, rejig and recalibrate our efforts towards ensuring that we stem its tide.

” I’m sure that with the efforts we are putting in place, we’re going to see significant improvements not too long from now,” he said.

Mutfwang, who promised quality and sustainable leadership for the people, called on residents of the state to support his administration to succeed.
