In a bold step towards enhancing legislative infrastructure, Governor Senator Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed of Bauchi State has officially launched a ₦7.8 billion renovation and upgrade of the Bauchi State House of Assembly complex.
The comprehensive remodeling project, flagged off at the Assembly premises, will include the construction of a new Assembly Service Commission building, complete renovation of the main legislative chamber, refurbishment of the aged administrative block, and overhaul of committee buildings, among other components. The initiative aligns with Governor Mohammed’s urban renewal agenda, aimed at fostering effective governance and a more functional workspace for lawmakers.
Speaking at the event, the Governor emphasized the importance of a harmonious working relationship between the executive and legislature, applauding the synergy that has yielded various people-centered developments across the state. He assured that provisions have been made for temporary office accommodations to ensure that legislative operations remain uninterrupted during construction.
Hon. Abubakar Sulaiman, Speaker of the Bauchi State House of Assembly, described the renovation as both “timely and long overdue,” noting that the complex had not seen any major upgrades in nearly twenty years. The move, he said, was a welcome relief to legislators and staff alike.
Also addressing the gathering, Commissioner for Housing and Environment Danlami Ahmed Kawule and Chairman of the Assembly Service Commission Alhaji Bappa Haruna Disina lauded Governor Mohammed’s commitment to legislative development, highlighting it as further testament to the administration’s inclusive approach to governance.
Representing the contracted firm, architect Ruben Okoye assured that the project will be delivered within the stipulated twelve months and in accordance with all design specifications.
The ceremony drew dignitaries from various arms of government and was marked by optimism that the upgraded complex will reinforce the state legislature’s capacity to better serve the people of Bauchi.
