Barrister Ibrahim Muhammad Kashim, former Secretary to the Bauchi State Government and 2023 gubernatorial candidate of the Peopleโs Democratic Party (PDP), has officially resigned his membership from the party, citing a desire to explore new avenues for public service.
In a letter dated July 21 and addressed to the PDP Ward Chairman of Majidadi B, Kashim expressed deep appreciation for the support he received during his time in the party. He recalled his nomination as the PDP flag bearer for the 2023 gubernatorial election, a position he later relinquished to allow Governor Bala Mohammed to seek re-election. Kashim emphasized his role in delivering electoral victories across Bauchi Local Government despite historical challenges faced by second-term candidates.
โI hope to explore other avenues of seeking the mandate of our people to serve them with the same commitment, passion, honesty of purpose, trustworthiness and above all fear of Allah SWT,โ Kashim stated in his resignation letter.
His departure has sparked mixed reactions within groups under the PDP umbrella, including the Red Cap Movement of Nigeria (Bauchi State Chapter), have welcomed the move. Daure David, a spokesperson for the group, described Kashimโs exit as โinconsequential,โ alleging that he had long acted as a mole within the party.
While Kashim has not disclosed his next political destination, speculation is rife that he may contest the 2027 governorship election under a different platform. His resignation follows an earlier departure from his role as SSG in January 2025, reportedly at the directive of Governor Bala Mohammed.
As the political landscape in Bauchi continues to shift, observers are watching closely to see what path the Muqaddas Din Bauchi will take next.
