Two frontrunners of the Senatorial ticket of the All Progressives Grand Alliance APGA in the coming by election for Anambra South Senatorial District are currently holding secret meetings with stakeholders of the African Democratic Congress ADC.
The meetings are on the account of the delay by APGA to name the candidate of the party since after three conclave primary elections was held at the instance of Gov Charles Soludo.
Recall that at the meeting Chief Ebuka Onunkwo came tops as the the most popular aspirant for the ticket of the party which prompted two aspirants to go into separate meetings with the ADC .
Also recall that at a stakeholders meeting of APGA chaired by Gov Charles Soludo himself, the governor had announced that any aspirant that is not comfortable with the choice of the party’s candidate should leave the party and meet him at the by election proper.
Apparently unhappy with the turn of events at the three conclave primary elections the two aspirants are said to be reaching out to the ADC being the perceived wonderful political bride of the moment.
According to Ichie Christian Chukwueke who was at the two meetings, the aspirants sent their delegations promising to collapse their structures in APGA to join the ADC boasting that with their respective structures out of APGA , the governor alone and the left overs in the party cannot win the by election.
“One of the two aspirants who sent their supporters and we met along with some members of the party asking for the processes of joining our party the ADC and he told us that he has formidable structure that would deliver our party both in the gubernatorial and by elections ”
“The other aspirant said that he is sick and tiered of the delay in chosing the APGA candidate lamenting that after all that he has done for the party during the first term election of Soludo he has chosen to reward him by not making him the consensus candidate of the party for the by election ”
Chukwueke however said that the State Working Committee and the State Executive Committee SWC of the party are still considering their offers adding that soon they would get response from the party .
He however failed to name the two aspirants but was quick to add that they are strong political stalwarts in the politics of the Senatorial District.
When contacted the National Publicity Secretary of APGA Mazi Ejimofor Opara said no comment.
