The relentless commitment of the Anambra State Commissioner of Police, CP Ikioye Orutugu fwc MNIPS PhD, to crime-fighting and security has once again received national recognition, as he was on Tuesday honoured as the “Best Crime Fighter – Man of the Year 2025” by the Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ), Federal Capital Territory Council.
The award, according to a statement issued on Tuesday by the Anambra State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, was presented to CP Orutugu at the Transcorp Hilton Hotel, Abuja, during the 2025 NUJ FCT Press Week Lecture and Awards Ceremony. Themed “Journalism in a Changing World: Press Freedom, Media, Democracy and Society”, the event, he said, attracted top dignitaries from security agencies, media, and other sectors.
According to SP Ikenga, in its citation, the NUJ FCT Council highlighted CP Orutugu’s exceptional leadership, professionalism, and strategic approach to crime prevention, which have continued to redefine policing and community safety in Anambra State, adding that, under his watch, the state has recorded significant milestones in combating violent crimes, dismantling criminal syndicates, and deepening collaboration with sister security agencies and community stakeholders.
The statement said the NUJ specifically lauded the transparency, dedication, and commitment with which CP Orutugu upholds the rule of law, noting that his efforts have restored public confidence in the police and significantly improved the security landscape in the state.
According to the statement, while receiving the award, CP Orutugu dedicated the honour to the gallant officers and men of the Anambra State Police Command, whose sacrifices and resilience, he said, remain the backbone of the Command’s successes. He reaffirmed his resolve to continue working round the clock to ensure that Anambra remains secure for all residents and visitors.
Reacting further, the Anambra State Police Command, in the statement by SP Ikenga, expressed appreciation to the NUJ FCT Council for the honour, noting that the recognition is not just a personal achievement for the Commissioner, but a testament to the collective efforts of the entire police personnel in the state.
Present at the award ceremony were the Inspector General of Police, represented by the Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, the Assistant Inspector General of Police Zone 7, represented by ACP Odugbesan O., alongside other senior police officers and stakeholders from various sectors.
The Anambra Police Command also reassured the public that it remains committed to the highest standards of professionalism and excellence in policing, even as it continues to strengthen community trust and partnerships essential for effective security management.
