The Anambra State Police Command has arrested two suspects linked to the kidnap and cold-blooded murder of a female bank manager in Onitsha earlier this year, a case that shocked many across the state and beyond.
According to a press statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, the suspects were arrested on Tuesday, May 28, 2025, following sustained, diligent and intelligence-led investigations by the Command’s operatives. He said the suspects, identified as Monday Egbe (male, aged 32) and Kenneth Nnoga (male, aged 28), were tracked and apprehended at their criminal hideout in a neighbouring state where they had fled to evade justice.
He recalled that the heinous crime, which occurred on January 13, 2025, involved the abduction of the bank manager, during which the perpetrators demanded and successfully received a ransom of ₦14 million from the victim’s family.
However, shockingly, despite the payment of the ransom, the lifeless body of the victim was later discovered along Nnobi Road with her eyes tied.
The eventual arrest of the suspect has been lauded as a major milestone in the Command’s relentless pursuit of justice for victims of violent crimes.
“Meanwhile, the suspects are currently undergoing interrogations for more insights into the modus operandi of the criminal gang and possible arrest of other gang members,” SP Ikenga confirmed in the statement.
Reacting to the arrest, the State Commissioner of Police, CP Ikioye Orutugu, reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to ensuring justice is served and criminal cases are followed through to their logical conclusion. He noted that under his leadership, no case would be swept under the carpet, and every criminal act would be met with the full force of the law.
According to the statement, the CP “assured that the Command shall continue to live up to its mandate of protection of lives and properties of Ndi Anambra and residents and to ensure that all cases are followed to a logical conclusion and justice served.”
