A yet-to-be-identified resident has been abducted by yet-to-be-identified gunmen in Awka, the capital city of Anambra State.
The abduction, which occured in the early hours Friday, was confirmed in a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer of the State, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, who said the operatives had activated rescue operations to ensure the safe return of the victim and the apprehension of the suspects.
According to the Police Spokesman, the three assailants, who were armed and operating in a stainless-coloured Highlander SUV with no plate number, stormed the area and began shooting indiscriminately before abducting the victim.
This was corroborated by a video currently trending on social media, showing the terrifying scene that left residents and passers-by scampering for safety as the hoodlums whisked the man away to an unknown destination.
SP Ikenga assured the public that no stone would be left unturned in tracking down the perpetrators of the crime and securing the freedom of the abducted individual.
While condemning the brazen act, the Command also appealed to members of the public to remain calm and cooperate with security agencies by providing any useful information that could assist in the ongoing investigations and operations.
