Operatives of the Anambra State Police Command have foiled a suspected cult initiation ceremony in Nawfia, Njikoka Local Government Area of the state, leading to the arrest of six suspects and the recovery of arms and other incriminating items.
The operation, which was based on intelligence, took place around 9:30am on Saturday, June 15, 2025, when the police stormed the venue of the alleged initiation and apprehended the suspects before the event could proceed.
According to a press release by the Spokesperson of the State Police Command, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, the arrested suspects include Nwadike Chibuike, Anierobi Precious, Raphael Ebube, Ezechi Benjamin, Okafor Chidera, and Chiema Okoye, all males between the ages of 20 and 30.
Items recovered during the raid include one Jojef pump action gun, two live cartridges, one golden-coloured Lexus SUV with registration number ATN 202 AE, two cutlasses, two scissors, one cap bearing the insignia of the Supreme Vikings Confraternity, charms, suspected hard substances, and other incriminating exhibits.
SP Ikenga disclosed that the suspects are currently undergoing interrogation and will be charged to court upon conclusion of investigations.
He reiterated the Command’s commitment to tackling cultism and other related crimes in the state, noting that such activities are often linked to more serious crimes such as armed robbery, kidnapping, and murder.
The Command also called on members of the public to continue to support the police by providing timely and useful information that can help in fighting crime and securing the state.
