Nigeria Bar Association (NBA) Owerri Branch has indicted the Assistant Chief Registrar (ACR) of the Judiciary High Court Owerri, Mrs. Augustina Emenike of assaulting her colleague, Barrister Olachi Madonna Anosike.
The incident took place a forthnight ago at the Chief Magistrate’s Court Awaka in Owerri North Magisterial District where Mrs. Emenike is the head.
Presenting the report by the Fact Finding Committee, set up by the NBA Owerri Branch, headed by Barrister Chetachi Udeh, last Saturday at the Bar Centre, Owerri, the committee indicted the Assistant Chief Registrar, Mrs. Augustina Chinwe Emenike for the offence, but added that, the Chairman of the High Court Welfare Scheme had written to the Branch an apology letter on her behalf, a letter which was read during the meeting.
“Report of the Fact-Finding Committee on the Assault of Olachi Madonna Anosike: The Chairperson of the Fact-Finding Committee, Chetachi Udeh, presented the report on the assault on our colleague, Olachi Madonna Anosike, by a Court Registrar (Mrs. Augustina Chinwe Emenike).
“In summary, the committee found the Registrar culpable. An apology letter, though not from the Registrar but written by the Chairman of the High Court Welfare Scheme on her behalf, was read out. The Executive Committee will review the report and the apology letter and act on the community implications of both and take necessary actions”, the report averred.
However, some lawyers who may not want their names on print has called for adequate sanctions on the Assistant Chief Registrar, Mrs. Augustina Chinwe Emenike so as to serve as a detterant to others.
It was of their various opinions, that Emenike should apologize to the NBA Owerri Branch and to Barrister Olachi Madonna Anosike in particular, followed by appropriate punishment on her by the Judiciary, adding, it was not enough for the Chairman of the Judiciary Welfare to write on her behalf for the apology.
“The indicted Assistant Chief Registrar, Mrs. Augustina Chinwe Emenike should write the apology letter by herself.
“If it is not her arrogance, she should have done the apology by herself. Even, the Chairman of the Judiciary Welfare wrote on her behalf, even after Mrs. Emenike denied before the Fact Finding Committee that she never touched Barrister Olachi Madonna Anosike when they visited the court.
