The Anambra State Executive Council (ANSEC) has approved a fresh set of contracts aimed at erosion and flood control, road rehabilitation, infrastructural upgrade, and institutional renovation across various communities and institutions in the state.

The approvals were made during the 11th ANSEC Meeting, which held on Monday, June 16, 2025, at the Light House (New Government House), Awka, and presided over by Governor Chukwuma Charles Soludo.

Part of the highlights of the meeting was the re-affirmation of the Council’s intention to kick off the Anambra Rebirth Programme, a behavioural change initiative designed to restore the core Igbo values of integrity, dignity of labour, and industriousness. The programme is rooted in the popular Igbo proverb “Aka aja aja na-ebute ọnụ mmanụ mmanụ,” which translates to “hard work begets reward.”

The state’s Commissioner for Information, Dr. Law Mefor, who disclosed this in a statement on Tuesday, said the Council also announced plans to retrain and re-educate drivers in the state. According to him, drivers who commit major traffic offences are to be blacklisted in the new traffic reform measure aimed at reducing accidents and reckless driving across the state.

In the area of education, the Council approved that more public schools, especially those previously neglected, would now be rehabilitated. This follows the full clearance of counterpart funding arrears inherited by the Soludo administration, up to 2024, and the expected Federal Government’s contributions.

Among the newly awarded contracts, he said, the sum of ₦3.5 billion was approved for erosion reclamation, flood control and road construction works within Umunze and Umuchu communities, covering 2.28 km. The contract was awarded to Saidi Nigeria Limited.

Similarly, ₦2.65 billion was approved for the construction of 3.9 km of access roads within the Uli campus of Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University, with Anyi Supreme Industries Ltd as the contractor.

The Council also approved ₦2.1 billion for access road construction at the Nwafor Orizu College of Education, Nsugbe. In addition, ₦718.6 million was approved for the renovation of dilapidated blocks within the college, split among three firms: Biggstruct Engineering Ltd. (₦263.7 million), Zonel Projects Ltd. (₦222.9 million), and Euro Energy Resources (₦208.5 million).

For the completion of the ongoing Country Club project at the Ekwulobia Stadium Complex, the Council also earmarked ₦528.6 million, which was awarded to Crystal Dove Construction Company Ltd. The same company also secured a ₦65.6 million contract for additional works at the Onitsha Specialist Hospital in Fegge.

Commissioner Mefor said that further approvals include ₦97.3 million for the rehabilitation of Nya Ranch Road in Awka by the Anambra Road Maintenance Agency (ARMA), and ₦55.1 million for the installation of traffic management facilities by the Anambra Road Traffic Management Agency (ARTMA). These include road signs, rumble strips, flashing caution lights, and thermoplastic speed bumps across key road locations in the state.

According to him, the projects are in line with Governor Soludo’s vision to build a livable and prosperous homeland for all.

According to him, the ongoing and new infrastructural developments showcases the administration’s deliberate efforts to touch every sector and community in the state, especially in education, transportation, safety, and disaster control.

Dr. Mefor reiterated that the government would continue to deliver people-focused policies and projects, while urging Ndi Anambra to continue supporting the Governor’s vision for a progressive state.
