What has been described as uncertainty has gripped some residents of Anambra State following the alleged renewed activities of unknown gunmen, who on Thursday morning, launched a gruesome attack near the Agulu-Nanka boundary in the state, killing two individuals in cold blood and fleeing unchallenged.
Reports have it that the attack occurred at about 10:45am along the busy stretch of road connecting Agulu and Nanka, two towns in Anaocha and Orumba North Local Government Areas of the state.
It was gathered that the yet-to-be-identified assailants, suspected to be part of a gang of armed criminals, reportedly stormed the area on a motorcycle and opened fire on their targets straightaway.
Although the identities of the slain victims and the reason behind the attack remain unknown as at the time of filing this report, one of the victims was said to have been killed while seated in a red saloon car (with the registration number: ABC-67 AX, Abuja), while the second was gunned down as he attempted to flee on foot.
This was corroborated by a video from the scene of the incident, currently trending on social media, showing a crowd of onlookers surrounding the abandoned vehicle of the victim with the his remains therein.
According to a masculine voiceover accompanying the video, “The gunmen stormed the area in motorcycle, shot dead the first victim who was in a red saloon car, after which they also gunned down his friend (the second victim) while he was running in an attempt to flee the scene.”
Efforts by this to get the confirmation and the reactions of the State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, on the incident, proved abortive as his phone number was not connecting, while he was also yet to respond to the message of inquiry sent to him by this reporter, as at the time of filing this report.
While the reason behind the attack still remains unknown, the uncertainty is further heightened by the fact that the said gunmen were unusually few in number, came with motorcycle, and also did not take away any material thing from the victims, abandoning even the car.
