Continuing in its sustained effort to enhance public safety and dismantle criminal networks within the state capital, the Anambra State Police Command has arrested three suspects during a targeted raid on an uncompleted building at the popular Iyiagu Estate, Awka.
The operation, which took place in the early hours of April 29, 2025, was carried out by operatives attached to the B Division of the Command following credible intelligence. It was gathered that during the raid, officers recovered a locally-made revolver pistol and some substances suspected to be hard drugs from the scene.
The arrested suspects were identified as Paulinus Nkuda, Nwankwo Emmanuel, and Nwadede Godspower, all male. Upon interrogation, the suspects claimed the recovered firearm belonged to a notorious arms dealer known simply as Chukwuebuka, alias Nwa Onitsha, who is currently at large.
Confirming the arrest in a press statement issued to newsmen on Friday, May 2, 2025, the Police Public Relations Officer of the Anambra State Police Command, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, revealed that the case has been transferred to the Anti-Kidnapping and Rapid Response Squad for further investigation. He also disclosed that the Command has intensified its manhunt for the said Nwa Onitsha, with a view to bringing him to justice.
“This operation demonstrates the Police’s commitment to enhancing safety and security in the State capital by targeting known criminal hideouts and potential flashpoints,” SP Ikenga stated.
He further assured residents of Awka and its environs of the Police Command’s dedication to preventing crime and maintaining law and order.
The latest success adds to a series of recent proactive policing measures across the state aimed at clamping down on criminal elements and restoring public confidence in the state’s security architecture.
