The acting Chairman of Shira local government area of Bauchi State, Alhaji Wali Adamu Tumfafi died nearly two weeks before Bauchi State Independent Electoral Commission (BASIEC) to conduct bye election, in to the Office of the Chairman and his Deputy.
The electoral Commission plans to conduct a by-election in the Shira Local Government Area to fill the vacancies created by the impeachment of the council’s chairman and deputy on 24th May 2025 and the commission had finalised arrangements for training ad hoc staff and making other logistical preparations to ensure the successful conduct of the election.
The deceased Wali Adamu became the acting Chairman when he led the councillors in Shira local Government that removed the elected Chairman Abdullahi Beli and his deputy, Usman Adamu, by members of the Shira Local Government Council over allegations of maladministration six to seven months after they were elected last August 2024.
In March 2025, the councillors in Shira Local Government Council impeached Chairman Abdullahi Beli and his deputy, Usman Adamu, following findings from an investigative committee.
In a statement led by Council Chairman Wali Adamu and issued under resolution number SLGLC/003, the council disclosed that both officials were found guilty of gross misconduct, financial mismanagement, dereliction of duty, and abuse of office.
“The removal of the chairman and his deputy was based on the committee’s report, which established that they breached public trust through poor financial conduct and failure to perform their official responsibilities,” Adamu said.
Since then he became the Acting Chairman of Shira local Government, but last Sunday Wali
Adamu died at the Federal Medical Centre in Azare, Katagum local government area of Bauchi State, after a brief illness.
