Anambra Police Launch Another Investigation As 4 Children Die After Eating Poisoned Food

What could be best described as a cloud of sorrow has enveloped the Ogidi community in Idemili North Local Government Area of Anambra State, following the tragic death of four siblings in the early hours of Tuesday, May 6, 2025, after reportedly eating a suspected poisoned meal.

The incident, which has thrown the entire neighbourhood into mourning, also left the mother of the deceased children in critical condition, as she is said to have also consumed the same meal and is currently receiving intensive treatment at a hospital.

Confirming the development, the Anambra State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, in a statement made available to newsmen, said operatives from Ogidi Division swiftly responded to the distress call and visited the scene.

According to him, the bodies of the children have been recovered and deposited at a morgue for preservation and autopsy, while samples of the food have also been taken for forensic analysis to determine the actual cause of the tragedy.

He added that police operatives have begun questioning residents and possible witnesses in the area as part of the ongoing investigation to unravel the circumstances surrounding the sad incident.

According to the Police Spokesman, the State Commissioner of Police, CP Ikioye Orutugu, in his reaction, expressed deep shock over the incident and extended condolences to the bereaved family, while also wishing the mother quick recovery, noting that her testimony would be vital to the investigation.

The Command further assured that no stone would be left unturned in getting to the root of the matter, even as the public awaits further updates.
