As Anambra State sets to host President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Thursday, May 8, 2025, the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Anambra State Command, has mobilized no fewer than 1,531 operatives to ensure airtight security in the state both before, during, and after the President’s visit.

The State Commandant of the NSCDC, Commandant Maku Olatunde A., disclosed this in a statement issued on Wednesday, May 7, 2025, by the Head of Media and Tactical Unit of the Command, Superintendent of Corps Okadigbo Edwin, shortly after a high-level strategic meeting held at the Command’s headquarters in Awka.

According to the statement, the deployment strategy will see personnel drawn not only from Anambra but also from neighboring states, including Enugu, Imo, Abia, Ebonyi, and Delta, to reinforce the operations.

Commandant Maku explained that the NSCDC, in collaboration with other sister security agencies, had intensified covert surveillance and joint tactical operations, including raids on criminal hideouts and confidence-building patrols, all aimed at ensuring a secure atmosphere throughout the presidential visit.

“The Command has made robust security arrangements with other agencies to ensure a successful state visit of Mr. President, who is the number one critical asset in the country,” the Commandant said.

He added that NSCDC operatives would be strategically positioned in key locations across the state—such as the airport, bridges, government buildings, markets, parks, telecommunication and power infrastructure, and other sensitive areas—to forestall any security breaches.

The statement also noted that NSCDC personnel will be part of the human shield to prevent unauthorized crowd obstruction along the President’s mapped-out routes and would oversee access control at designated locations.

While charging the operatives to maintain high standards of professionalism, discipline, and coordination, the State Commandant urged members of the public to remain peaceful and law-abiding as they turn out to welcome the President.

The Command further reaffirmed its readiness to collaborate effectively with other security agencies to ensure peace and safety throughout the duration of the visit.

While some netizens have questioned the rationale behind such high-level deployment, strategic planning and exuberance just because of Mr. President’s visit, some others have described the security reinforcement by the NSCDC as an addition to a growing synergy among security outfits in the state, all working in concert to provide a secure and successful environment for the President’s historic visit to the Light of the Nation.
