In a heartbreaking turn of events, a deadly explosion rocked the Damboa-Maiduguri highway on Saturday morning, claiming the lives of at least seven individuals and leaving several others injured. The incident occurred near the Gidan Kaji area at approximately 11:30 AM, when a Hummer bus traveling toward Maiduguri hit an improvised explosive device (IED) planted along the road.

Eyewitnesses report a scene of chaos and devastation, as emergency responders and good Samaritans rushed to aid the victims. The explosion ripped through the vehicle with ferocious force, scattering debris and leaving little chance for those onboard.

Local authorities have yet to release the full list of casualties, but several passengers sustained critical injuries and have been taken to nearby medical facilities for treatment. Security forces have since cordoned off the area and launched an investigation to identify the perpetrators behind the deadly act.

“This is a tragic day for our community. We mourn the loss of innocent lives and pray for the swift recovery of those injured. We extend our deepest condolences to the families affected by this heinous act. May Almighty Allah grant eternal peace to the departed souls,” he said.

This attack adds to the growing concern over the security situation in the region, which has seen sporadic violence in recent years, often linked to insurgent activity. Residents are calling on authorities to intensify surveillance and improve safety measures on the highway to prevent further tragedies.
