In a significant political development, members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the National Assembly representing Rivers State have officially declared their support for the re-election bid of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in the 2027 general elections.
The lawmakers made their position known in a joint statement released to journalists in Port Harcourt on Friday. According to the statement, their decision is rooted in what they described as President Tinubu’s “visionary leadership, commitment to national unity, and proven track record in driving developmental projects across the country.”
“We, the undersigned members of the National Assembly from Rivers State under the platform of the PDP, have resolved to support the re-election of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu come 2027,” the statement read. “Our decision is guided by the president’s inclusive governance style, as well as the positive impact his administration has had on Rivers State and the South-South region at large.”
The lawmakers praised ongoing federal projects in the state and lauded the president for what they termed “a sincere effort to build bridges across party lines in the interest of national development.”
While the statement did not name all signatories, sources within the National Assembly confirmed that a majority of PDP legislators from Rivers State have aligned with this new political direction.
The announcement marks a rare show of bipartisan cooperation and could signal shifting allegiances in the lead-up to the 2027 elections. Political analysts say the move may reshape party dynamics in Rivers State, a PDP stronghold, and beyond.
As the 2027 race begins to take shape, this declaration is expected to spark conversations both within the PDP and the broader political landscape, especially as party leaders strategize for the next electoral cycle.
