The Anambra State Police Command said its operatives have taken control of the scene of office of the Vigilante group at Amesi, in Aguata Local Government Area of the State, following an attack on the office by yet-to-be-identified gunmen.
According to a statement released by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, the attack occurred late on Friday, April 25, 2025, when armed hoodlums attempted to force their way into the facility. He said the security operatives on ground resisted the attack, which resulted in a gun duel between them and the gunmen, during which four patrol vehicles and two motorcycles were unfortunately set ablaze.
Although reports have it that one person died during the attack, the Police Spokesman, however, stated that no life was lost during the incident.
According to him, following the attack, calm has been restored in the area as the Joint Security Force intensifies its offensive operations to flush out criminal elements from the locality.
The Command further assured that the situation is being closely monitored and promised to provide updates as further developments unfold.
It would be recalled that this is not the first time gunmen are attacking security office in Anambra State, as some security facilities in Nnewi South and other parts of the state had experienced attacks of different intense from the gunmen in the past.
Unidentified gunmen, sometime in November 2024, also attacked operatives of the Anambra State Vigilante Group along the Amesi-Uga Road in Aguata Local Government Area, which resulted in one vigilante member sustaining injuries, while their operational vehicle was also set ablaze.
