The Anambra State Police Command has confirmed the successful rescue and safe return of a kidnap victim abducted at Umuege Village, Amawbia, in Awka South Local Government Area of the State.
This latest success was achieved under the ongoing Operation Udo Ga-Achi – Zero Kidnapping, as part of intensified efforts by the Police to clamp down on kidnappers and criminal elements, and rid Anambra State of all forms of violent crimes.
According to a statement issued over the week by the Command’s Spokesperson, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, the rescue was made possible following a swift response and strategic deployment of officers from the Central Police Station, Awka, who acted immediately upon receiving information about the incident around 10:45 p.m. on April 22.
The statement revealed that the criminals, who were operating in an unmarked Sienna vehicle, panicked and fled after being pursued by the Police. It added that the intense pressure and strategic positioning of the operatives forced the hoodlums to abandon the victim in Umunya, along the Enugu-Onitsha Expressway, before escaping the scene.
The rescued victim, whose identity has been withheld for security reasons, was safely returned and has since been debriefed by the authorities for further investigation and action.
While commending the operatives for their swift and professional response, the Commissioner of Police, CP Ikioye Orutugu fwc MNIPS PhD, directed the immediate launch of a comprehensive investigation into the incident with a view to apprehending the fleeing suspects and bringing them to justice.
CP Orutugu reiterated the Command’s dedication to sustaining the tempo of Operation Udo Ga-Achi and ensuring zero tolerance for kidnapping and other violent crimes in Anambra state. He assured Ndi Anambra that the Police remain vigilant, proactive, and determined to keep every corner of the state safe for residents and visitors alike.
The Command urged members of the public to continue to support security efforts by reporting suspicious movements or criminal activities to the nearest police station, while also assuring that all tips and information will be treated with utmost confidentiality.
This incident, according to reports, adds to the series of recent security breakthroughs recorded across the state, as Anambra Police and other sister agencies continue to intensify patrols, surveillance, and intelligence-driven operations in line with their renewed drive for peace and public safety.
