The Anambra State Fire Service has confirmed its intervention in a fire incident involving a moving vehicle along the Enugu-Onitsha Expressway, Awka.
According to a statement from the Media and Publicity Unit of the Service, the fire incident occurred around 1:31pm on Wednesday, April 23, 2025, near the IDK axis of Agu-Awka. It was gathered that a distress call was received from a passerby, prompting the immediate deployment of firemen and firefighting equipment to the scene.
The Fire Service noted that, on arrival, the crew met a hummer jeep truck already engulfed in flames. It added that, despite efforts to extinguish the fire, the vehicle, which belonged to a private individual, was completely razed.
The statement also said preliminary findings revealed that the fire originated from the engine compartment due to an electrical issue, adding that the firemen concluded the operation and left the scene by 2:27pm the same day.
While no casualties were reported, the Fire Service emphasized the importance of carrying functional fire extinguishers in vehicles and urged motorists to regularly check for electrical faults, noting that prevention remains key.
The agency also appreciated the timely alert by the passerby, which enabled quick intervention to prevent further escalation.
