Imo begins crackdown on witch doctors

The Imo State Council of Traditional Rulers has ordered non-indigenous witch doctors practicing in the state to relocate to their states of origin with immediate effect.

The council also enjoined communities in the state to compile database of stranger elements including operators of healing/faith homes and scavengers in their midst and submit copies to the government.

The council gave the directive in a communique issued after its meeting on Wednesday, February 26, 2025 at Owerri, the state capital.

The communique was signed by its Chairman, HRM Eze Emmanuel Okeke.and 22 others.

The monarchs also directed that shrines and altars raised by the non-, indigenous witch doctors be dismantled immediately.

According to the traditional rulers, the libations, incantations and sacrifices of the stranger native doctors will not be accepted by the gods of Imo State.

The council equally directed that all indigenous traditionalists must show up with their monarchs to prove their craft and register accordingly.

It declared that defaulting communities and their traditional rulers will be meted with stiff sanctions
Recall that the neighbouring Anambra State under the leadership of Gov Chukwuma Soludo is at present engaged in a crackdown on witch doctors in the state.

The government is currently holding some witch doctors in solitary confinement with a proviso that any of them who could disappear from detention will be cleared of all charges slammed on them.
