Bayelsa State Governor, Senator Douye Diri, has issued a stern warning following growing concerns about potential threats to the state’s peace. Governor Diri, in a formal statement today, emphasized that his administration would not tolerate any efforts aimed at destabilizing Bayelsa.

The Governor’s warning comes amid a brewing political tension surrounding a rally organized by former Governor Nyesom Wike, with sources indicating that the event could be used to stoke unrest. In response to these concerns, Governor Diri ordered a complete ban on the use of public sites to host Wike’s rally in Bayelsa, effectively blacklisting the former governor from using government-owned venues.

Governor Diri called on security agencies to be on high alert, urging the police, military, and other security outfits to ensure that peace is maintained at all costs. “We will not stand by while individuals or groups seek to jeopardize the peace and stability of our state,” Diri stated in the announcement. He further urged community elders, youths, and traditional rulers to collaborate with security forces to prevent any escalation of violence.

“The peace of Bayelsa is non-negotiable, and we will do everything within our power to protect it,” Governor Diri added, warning that anyone caught attempting to cause unrest would face the full wrath of the law.

The Governor’s statement has already sparked reactions from various quarters, with some political observers expressing concerns about the potential for heightened political rivalry. However, Diri’s administration remains firm in its commitment to maintaining law and order, with the security of the people being the top priority.

As the situation unfolds, all eyes will be on the state’s security apparatus to see how they address the potential threats to peace, with many citizens hoping that Bayelsa will remain a beacon of stability in the Niger Delta.
